The town of Caprarola stands on the south-eastern slope of the Cimini Mountains and is dominated by the imposing palace-fortress, built in the fifteenth century by the powerful Farnese family, precisely the Palazzo Farnese.
The territory of Caprarola is surrounded by green forests of hazelnut trees, which produce one of the best qualities of hazelnuts on the entire Italian market. In late August, in order to celebrate this outstanding product, a famous Festival is made, an event where you have the chance to taste the best hazelnuts of Tuscia. But Caprarola is not only this: Etruscan and medieval history come together in a territory with a thousand facets. Many are in fact the evidences related to ancient times, especially from the Middle Ages, a time when we find the first real evidence of the existence of Caprarola.
There are many attractions to visit; besides the already mentioned Palazzo Farnese, we find the scenic Lake Vico, the lush Reserve of the Cimini Mountains and the beautiful Church of Santa Teresa. Caprarola is an excellent destination for a holiday or a weekend to the rediscovery of exceptional flavors and ancient history. It is infact a small Town with a particular urban structure, due to intervention by Jacopo Barozzi, known as Vignola.
It consists of a main street, the "Straight Road", from which all major roads ends in the square on which the Palazzo Farnese stands. To make room for the construction of this building, part of the village was destroyed, but the result was a building of great value and architecture, which is still today the real symbol of Caprarola.
